Which dumpster sizes take concrete and dirt?
Concrete, dirt, brick and sand go only in our 10-yard and 15-yard dumpsters. Because of highway legal weight limits for the truck, heavy debris can only be loaded halfway up the dumpster walls. Bigger dumpsters aren't allowed for heavy debris at all.
| Slab area, 4 in thick | Weight | Tons | Size |
|---|---|---|---|
| 50 sq ft | 2,400 lb | 1.2 t | 10-yard |
| 80 sq ft | 3,840 lb | 1.9 t | 10-yard |
| 100 sq ft | 4,800 lb | 2.4 t | 15-yard |
| 150 sq ft | 7,200 lb | 3.6 t | 15-yard, more than one haul or clean-fill pricing |
| 200 sq ft | 9,600 lb | 4.8 t | 15-yard, more than one haul or clean-fill pricing |
Based on solid concrete at about 145 lb per cubic foot, or about 48 lb per square foot at 4 inches. Use your measured thickness: a 6-inch slab weighs 1.5 times as much. Included weight: 10-yard 2 t, 15-yard 2.5 t; $75/ton over unless clean-fill pricing applies.
What is a clean load?
A clean load is one material only, such as all concrete or all dirt, with no trash, wood, rebar bundles, roots or bags mixed in. Clean, unmixed loads qualify for special clean-fill pricing. Mixed loads are billed as regular debris against the included tons.
Ask for clean-fill pricing when you call, and keep a separate bin for everything else.
How full can I fill a dumpster with concrete?
Fill a 10 or 15-yard dumpster with concrete, dirt, brick or sand no higher than halfway up the walls. Spread it evenly from end to end. A dumpster loaded higher can't legally go on the highway, so the driver can't haul it until the excess comes out.
An overloaded bin means a $125 dry-run fee. See how to load a dumpster.
Where should a heavy-debris dumpster sit?
Set a heavy-debris dumpster on a hard, level surface such as a driveway, never on soft lawn, a septic field or fresh concrete. Our drivers set boards under the rails to protect the driveway, and the truck needs a straight, firm approach to lift a heavy load back on.
Wheelbarrow access matters too: put the dumpster where you can reach it with a ramp or plank from the demo area. More in the placement guide.
What does a concrete & dirt dumpster rental include?
A concrete or dirt dumpster rental includes delivery, pickup, 7 days and 2 tons in the 10-yard or 2.5 tons in the 15-yard. Clean, unmixed loads can qualify for clean-fill pricing instead of the $75-per-ton overage; ask for it when you call.

Concrete & dirt dumpster questions
Can I put concrete in a 20-yard dumpster?
Concrete isn't allowed in our 20 or 30-yard dumpsters. Heavy debris is limited to the 10 and 15-yard, filled halfway.
Can I mix dirt and concrete?
Mixed dirt and concrete can go in, but mixing disqualifies the load from clean-fill pricing. Keep them separate for the better rate.
Can rebar go in with the concrete?
Ask when you book. Rebar sticking out of chunks can affect whether a load counts as clean; loose rebar and wire mesh are better kept separate.
How much concrete fits in a 10-yard dumpster?
By weight, about 80 square feet of 4-inch slab fills the 2 tons included with a 10-yard. More can go in, filled no higher than halfway, at the overage or clean-fill rate.
Can I put sod or rocks in the dumpster?
Sod carries soil and rock is dense, so treat both like dirt: 10 or 15-yard only, filled halfway.
