What fits in a 10-yard dumpster?
A 10-yard dumpster holds about 3 to 4 pickup-truck loads. It sits 3.5 feet tall, so most people can lift debris over the wall without a ramp. The 10-yard is the size for small, heavy jobs, because it takes concrete, dirt and brick when they are loaded halfway up the walls.
Typical jobs that fit:
- One full bathroom gutted to the studs: tub, tile, vanity and drywall
- Carpet and pad from about 3 or 4 bedrooms
- A 10 × 10 ft patio slab, 4 inches thick, broken up (clean concrete only)
- A shed teardown or a one-room cleanout
Examples are typical, not guaranteed. Bulky items like sofas leave gaps, so they take more room than their size suggests.

How much concrete fits in a 10-yard dumpster before it's overweight?
A 10-yard dumpster includes 2 tons, which is about 80 square feet of a 4-inch concrete slab. Solid concrete weighs about 145 pounds per cubic foot, so each square foot of a 4-inch slab is about 48 pounds. A 10 × 10 ft patio comes to about 2.4 tons.
At 2.4 tons net, the 10-yard is 0.4 tons (800 pounds) over, which bills $30 at $75 per ton. Clean, unmixed concrete or dirt may qualify for clean-fill pricing instead, so tell us the material when you call. Either way, heavy debris only goes halfway up the walls. Highway weight limits for the truck set that fill line, not the size of the bin.

Will a 10-yard dumpster fit in my driveway?
A 10-yard dumpster needs a spot about 12 feet long and 8 feet wide, roughly the size of one parked pickup. Most single-car driveways fit it with room to walk around. The truck still needs a straight run of about 60 feet and clear overhead space to set it down.
Our drivers set wooden boards under the steel rails so the dumpster doesn't crack or scratch concrete or asphalt. Keep it off septic lids, sprinkler heads and soft grass. Street placement may need a city permit; the driveway placement guide covers both.
Is the 10-yard too small or too big for my job?
Step up to the 15-yard if the job is bulky rather than heavy, such as furniture, cabinets or a whole garage. The 15-yard is 4 feet longer and a foot taller, and it still takes heavy debris. Stay with the 10-yard for concrete, dirt, brick or tile, because weight fills it long before space does.
What's included with every 10-yard rental?
Delivery, pickup, 7 days and 2 tons come with the 10-yard. After that: $25 per extra day, $75 per ton over, $50 per tire, mattress or Freon appliance, and $125 if the truck can't reach the spot. Full details are on the dumpster rental cost guide.

10-yard dumpster questions
How many tons can a 10-yard dumpster hold?
The 10-yard rental includes 2 tons of debris. You can go over; each extra ton costs $75, charged by the exact pound on the landfill scale ticket, so 300 pounds over is $11.25.
Can I put dirt in a 10-yard dumpster?
Dirt, concrete, brick and sand are allowed in the 10-yard, filled no higher than halfway up the walls. Keep the load clean, meaning one material with no trash or wood mixed in, to qualify for clean-fill pricing.
Is a 10-yard big enough for a bathroom remodel?
One bathroom gutted to the studs usually fits in a 10-yard dumpster. Two bathrooms, or a bathroom plus new flooring through the house, is a better fit for the 15-yard.
How long do I get the 10-yard dumpster?
Seven days are included. Each extra day is $25, and you can extend by calling before your pickup date.
Do I have to be home when the 10-yard is delivered?
You don't need to be home. The driver texts or calls 20 to 30 minutes before arrival. Clear the drop spot and mark it, and the driver places the dumpster on boards.
